Here you will find photographs of York history from Roman times up until the present day. I concede that the text provided with the photographs gives only a (very) brief glimpse of the history of the subject shown but hopefully it will be of interest.

Although York History in Pictures is directed towards visitors to our beautiful city of York the site is not intended to be a tourism guide. Click the 'Links and Contacts' button for tourism information. Clicking any of the other buttons below 'Contents' will take you to the appropriate section.

The photographs in York History in Pictures are my own work, taken as an amateur photographer. I would ask you to respect my copyright of the pictures. (A small number of photographs in the 'Roman' section were taken, with permission, in the undercroft of the York Minster. These pictures remain the copyright of the Dean and Chapter.)

The York History in Pictures is split in to a number of different history time frames or areas of interest but it is appreciated that the photographs only scratch the surface of York history. Clicking the buttons to the left will take you to the appropriate section.

Many thanks to all who have found the time to send me comments on the site last year. (Regular visitors will notice that I have tried to improve the readability of the pages with a new colour scheme. I have also taken the opportunity to remove any Flash programming to help the Mac users out there!)
